Emotionally Focused Therapy
EFT
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is great for people who experienced difficulties in the relationships with their parents or caregivers. It also works well for people who notice patterns of challenges in relationships in their life. This evidence-based approach helps individuals better understand and process emotions, and often leads to greater sense of self and security within relationships. EFT is used with individuals and couples to identify underlying emotional patterns and work towards more flexible ways of engaging with others, emotions, and experiences. With individuals, I use Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy to achieve these goals. If you ever felt unseen, unloved, or unsafe with those you depended on, this would likely be a great approach for you.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) may be right for you if:
You experienced difficult relationships with those you depended on growing up, such as parents or caregivers
You felt your emotions were too much for others and learned to ignore them
You notice similar patterns of behavior or struggles within various relationships
You have a hard time understanding what emotion you are experiencing or why
You notice you lose yourself in relationships, maybe due to a lack of sense of self
